The National Football League Players Association released their 2025 Team Report Cards. One thing that bothered Chiefs players was the unnamed team hotel they stayed at the night before home games. They thought the beds were uncomfortable, the carpets and floors dirty, and the hotel generally outdated. That got me thinking, is there a decent hotel adjacent to the sports complex for fans, or will they run into problems similar to the team?

Sports Complex Adjacent Hotels and Their Ratings

Limiting my survey to hotels near the Truman Sports Complex, I'll examine the Best Western Plus Kansas City Sports Complex Hotel, Extended Stay America Select Suites-Kansas City-Stadium, and The Hotel Lotus Kansas City Stadium. Unfortunately, the reviews aren't that good.

Using reviews from both Expedia and TripAdvisor, I have to say I don't think I'd book myself at any of these hotels.

The Best Western Plus Kansas City Sports Complex Hotel and the Hotel Lotus both received a 7/10 rating on Expedia. In contrast, the Hotel Lotus received four out of five circles on TripAdvisor and the Best Western three out of five circles.

Breakfast at both hotels was cited as a positive, and the pools at both hotels were one of the things reviewers disliked. Reviewers indicated that the pool at the Best Western tended to be closed consistently without notice, and some reviewers noted health concerns and construction issues. Over at the Hotel Lotus, reviewers felt the pool was dirty, seemed in poor condition, and lacked maintenance.

Some reviewers also criticized both Hotels for staff that wasn't attentive to guest needs, room cleanliness in some cases, and the dated look of the rooms or properties themselves. The big knock on the Best Western is outrageous rates during significant events at the sports complex, and the big knock on the Hotel Lotus is the $100 deposit required when checking in, in addition to paying for the room.

 The Worst Hotel At The Truman Sports Complex

The worst hotel at the sports complex is the Extended Stay America Select-Kansas City-Stadium, which received a 5.6/10 rating on Expedia and three and a half circles out of five on TripAdvisor.

Expedia's summary of reviews didn't have anything positive to say, yet it did mention that a few reviews noted parking lot safety was an issue. Over on TripAdvisor, where there hasn't been a review in a few years,  review headlines include "Stinky Room," "Roaches, Roaches, Roaches," "Avoid At All Cost," and "Sketchy Hotel." Maybe things have changed since 2021, but I don't want to find out.

The Bottom Line

Based on the reviews, I'd pass on staying at the Truman Sports Complex. You'll be happier picking a hotel you'll enjoy staying in and driving to and from the game. You'll also be closer to restaurants and other things to do, because truthfully, there isn't much at the Truman Sports Complex.
