If you've been able to steer clear of all those tempting holiday sweets so far, kudos to you for your willpower!  But of course, not all of us have been so good. I mean, between egg nog and Christmas Cookies and Christmas Fudge, and all the pies, not to even mention the FRUITCAKE? You're probably convinced this is the Most Unhealthy time of the year.

Luckily, looks like science has come through for all us this Christmas.

Now, here’s some surprising news: a recent study found that completely avoiding sweets might not be the best choice for your health.

Researchers looked at the added sugar intake of 70,000 people to see how it impacted heart health. They focused on three main sources of sugar: sugary toppings like honey, delicious treats like cookies, and sweetened drinks like soda.

They found that while too much sugar—especially from drinks—can increase the risk of heart attacks or strokes, it’s interesting to note that people who avoided sugar entirely were also at a higher risk.

The researchers think that those who stayed away from sugar might have had underlying health issues that prompted their avoidance. If that’s the case, it could explain why their hearts weren’t in the best shape.

So here’s the takeaway: the study suggests that drastically cutting sugar may not be necessary or even beneficial for everyone.

Their friendly advice?

Don’t feel guilty about enjoying a sweet treat occasionally! It’s generally okay for most people and might even bring some health benefits. Enjoy responsibly!

Sugarily yours,
Behka
