I enjoy the television show "The Voice" a lot.  I don't even watch American Idol anymore, I think the format is just better.  However, I have a problem with Monday night's show.

First Adam Levine, Roberta Flack, say it with me Roberta Flack.  Without her there would be no Fugues or anyone else doing Killing Me Softly.  At least Cee Lo tried to bring up Roberta.

Secondly when the guy did "If You Don't Know Me By Now"  No one mentioned the original artists at all!

Harold Melvin

Huh? No mention of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes or Teddy Pendergrass at all.  No respect for the old timers.  That's another reason Country Music drives me crazy, these young artists may know Merle or George or Johnny, but ask them if they know Cal Smith or Rex Allen or Kitty Wells.  They will look at you blankly. Trust me, I've interviewed hundreds of them.

That's another reason I love the BLUES: I have never interviewed a Contemporary Blues Artist that did not know the history of the music. They not only can tell you about the mysteries of Robert Johnson, but they know all the greats, Muddy, Howlin Wolf, the 3 Kings on and on. Blues artists know the history of their music and what it has meant to people from generation to generation.

When I got into radio a hundred years ago, I thought it was my duty to learn music, all kinds of music.  After all, that's why I got into this business because of da music, DOUGIE!
