Is your smoke alarm old? Like 10 years old or older. Or do you not have a smoke alarm? If you're a Warrensburg resident you can get one for free from the Warrensburg Fire Department.

According to a post on their Facebook page the Warrensburg Fire Department has free smoke alarms available for residents with ten year batteries. Folks who live in Warrensburg or Johnson County are eligible for the free detectors. The fire department will even come out and install it for you.

Here's a few reasons why you should have working smoke detectors from the National Fire Protection Association:

  • Three of every five home fire deaths occured in homes no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
  • No smoke alarms were present in two of every five home fire deaths.
  • In fires where smoke detectors were present but not working, more than two of every five smoke detectors had missing or disconnected batteries.
  • Smoke detectors save lives.

If you would like to schedule a smoke detector installation and you live in Warrensburg call the fire department at 747-9136. f in the county call Johnson County Emergency Management at 747-2666. The smoke detectors are coutresy of the American Red Cross.
