A Washington, Mo., man was killed after the car he was driving was struck by a Union Pacific train last night in Franklin County.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 51-year-old Edward D. Ocheskey of Washington was at Highway B and County Road 304 (near Berger) around 9 p.m., when Ocheskey took a left turn onto the train tracks and got stuck.

The front of a westbound 2014 Union Pacific GM SD70AH train, driven by 49-year-old Velroy Ruch of Omaha, Nebraska, struck the rear of Ocheskey's northbound 2006 Chevy Colorado.

Ocheskey was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:47 p.m., by Hermann EMS personnel. The body was taken by Superior Mortuary Services to the St. Louis County Morgue.

The train had minor damage, while the Chevy Colorado was totaled.

Union Pacific Police assisted the three Troopers on scene.

According to the Patrol, the crossbar, lights and bell were all in good working order at the time of the incident.
