Sedalia 200 unveiled new logos and branding after the Sedalia School District 200 Board Of Education approved new branding and logos for the district during their monthly meeting on Monday, July 29, 2024.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Fraley led a team of administrators and school board members to design the logos with Callis, a Sedalia marketing and advertising firm, to establish the new branding standards. Additionally, the team designing Sedalia 200's new look used data from a spring survey of district families and staff members to inform their choices moving forward.

Without getting too involved in the minutia of fonts and the details of the district's future look, I thought it would be cool to look at the logos; these symbols will identify Sedalia 200, their schools, and their sports teams and clubs.

First is the Sedalia 200 logo.

Superintendent Dr. Todd Fraley explained the new district logo in an article on the Sedalia 200 School District website. The new district logo's motto is "Providing the Path of Opportunity," and Fraley told the board, “We are responsible for providing the path of opportunity. … We want to lay the groundwork, the foundation, (to) give our students, our families the opportunity to be successful.”

The path, the focal point of the logo, represents the district helping students wind their way to a bright future (the sun), and the four stars represent the four pillars of the National Honor Society: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.

The tiger head logomark will serve as the primary logo for each of Sedalia 200's schools, and I assume it may appear on athletic teams' uniforms, school-branded T-shirts, and other items schools like to put their logo on. Additionally, there is a full-bodied tiger logomark.

I like the idea of the district adopting a logo with some meaning behind the design. Not that there was anything wrong with using the tiger logo for everything, but perhaps this says, hey, we're about education. Our first and foremost job is to turn out young women and men who are prepared to either further their education at a university or a trade school or enter the workforce with a good grasp of what it will take to be successful.

On the school level, I like the new tiger logos. They're distinct and unique, and they move Sedalia 200 away from a logo that seems inspired by and perhaps leaned a little too much on inspiration from, the University of Missouri's current tiger logomark.

Sedalia 200 says they will seek copyright and trademark/servicemark protections for the new logos, and the district will transition to the new branding over the next year or so.

Here's to a great start to the 2024-2025 school year, Go Tigers!

No More Movies: Check Out This Abandoned Theater

WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.

These cinemas near Kansas City, Missouri opened in December 1986 as part of the Dickinson Cinema chain and closed as part of the independent Globe Cinema Group 28 years later. It's part of a strip mall that's died along with a lot of surrounding area which is ripe for redevelopment. Cinema Treasures noted that for a multiplex it had a very well-done facade. This is somewhat different for me than most of these galleries because I did see a movie at this theater in the summer of 1992 when I took my first solo road trip to Kansas City.

Take A Look At These Very Classic Missouri State Fair Photos

The Missouri State Fair was established in 1901 and has called Sedalia its home ever since. In 2024 the Fair's theme is Summer's Best Story. Here's proof that the Missouri State Fair is Summer's Best Story every summer for many people. Enjoy these pictures and postcards from the Missouri State Fair from The State Historical Society of Missouri, including one of our state's most favorite sons.
