50th Ragtime Music Fest Begins Today
The 50th anniversary edition of the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival begins today in downtown Sedalia with a “Ragtime Reunion' & social that starts at 5 with a vintage parade that begins at 7th and Ohio and ends at the Furnell Pavilion at 2nd and Ohio.
There will be a period attire costume contest, as well as vintage autos on display below the Joplin mural, and festival performers will entertain on the pavilion stage.
There will also be food trucks in the area as well, open for business.
And at 7:30, there will be a free showing of the 1974 movie The Sting at the Liberty Center.

On Thursday morning, the music festival officially opens at 9 with a welcoming ceremony led by Sedalia Mayor Andrew Dawson at the Furnell Pavilion. There will also be remarks from Foundation Board President John Simmons, Artistic Director Bryan Wright and Ragtime Kids Director Bill McNally.
Free concerts will take place at three venues from 9 to 5 at the Stark Tent, Furnell Pavilion and the Katy Depot Thursday, Friday and Saturday. One more venue will be added Saturday, namely Convention Hall.
At noon, there will be free dance lessons offered at the Fox Theatre.
An "After Glow" will take place at Best Western, 32nd and Limit, starting at 10 p.m. BYOB, as there is no bar service at Best Western.
Ticketed events include a Symposia to be presented at Liberty Center at 9 and 12, a Historic Trolley Tour at 10:30 and 12:15 (Thursday & Friday only), a Matinee Concert at Liberty Center at 2, "Dining With The Stars" at Lamy's at 5, and an Evening Concert at Liberty at 7:30.
The festival will follow a similar schedule Friday and Saturday.
