Cole Camp Man Arrested After Incident at Big Lots
Monday morning, Officers responded to the Big Lots store, 3125 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to an assault that had just occurred.
According to the Probable Cause statement, a suspect had approached a woman in the Big Lots store, claiming the Kansas City Chiefs stocking hat she was wearing was his. She stated she had bought the hat and it was hers, but the suspect followed her through the store, getting more verbally aggressive.
The suspect “got in her face”, pushed her down, and then took the hat off her head. She went to the front of the store to try to get away from the suspect, telling him several times to leave her alone.
Store security caught up with the suspect and then after asking him to leave, physically forced him to leave the store. While Officers were investigating this incident, another call came in about the same suspect causing another disturbance at another business*.
Officers soon located the suspect at the Winchester West Apartments, 800 Winchester Drive. Officers approached the suspect, and he refused to cooperate.
Mitchell C. Cairer Jr., 36, of Cole Camp, was placed under arrest. Cairer was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold for a charge of Robbery in the 2nd Degree**. Bond was set at $7500 cash or surety.
*The business was not named in the report, and in the Probable Cause statement, the name is redacted. The PC statement notes that security footage of the incident in this business was unavailable at the time due to the store’s policy.
**According to Casenet #23PT-CR01610, the charges against Cairer have been amended to felony Stealing (Physically Take) and felony Harassment in the 1st Degree.
