Gentle Reader. I am going to be making a lot of puns in this article.  I know for a second we thought I was past this.  I used to make punny jokes, but the groans were unbeetable.

So if those kind of things bother you, sorry.  Turnip the other way.

So Why Are You Punning it Up Today?

Because of this event coming up in Cole Camp! We got a notice from the Cole Camp branch of the Boonslick Regional Library about an event they're going to be hosting this month.

Zucchini Racer Build Day at the Library! Get ready to roll in Cole Camp’s annual Zucchini Race — and for the first time, we’re racing from the library!

I tried to write this zucchini race article without puns, but they just kept sprouting up. And really, what kind of writer would I be if I didn’t squash every chance to make a terrible joke?

Huh? Zuccini Races? What Are Those?

It's something folks have been doing for ages. You can check out this video showing how another group does it in Maine.

No lemon laws apply.....these veggie vehicles are homegrown and high-speed. Basically, it's like soap box races, only, you don't sit in them to drive them.  Some folks brought sleek squash… others just winged it and hoped it didn’t turnip lame.

SEE? Look, if you thought I could write about zucchini races without peppering in some corny jokes… you don’t know me at all.

Anyway, the veg-tacular fun kicks off on Wednesday, July 24th! The  Zucchini Racer Build Day starts at 10:00 AM  and goes through 1:00 PM.  They'll have another round from  4:00 PM  to 6:00 PM.  If you don't have any, they'll supply:  Zucchinis (10 available – first come, first... PEELED) Wheels & axles, and Decorations.  You just gotta show up to the library, 701 West Main Street, and build your masterpiece.  If you can, though, I'd probably bring my own.
