Missouri Residents Warned of Utility Bill Shocker
Don't say that I didn't try to warn you. If you haven't already received or checked your online progress, you need to brace yourself now for a utility bill shock for the energy you used in June.
First, here's some backstory to give context to my utility bill warningI consider myself an average Missourian. While I have my quirks, I am a dad that turns off the lights whenever they're not needed and sometimes when they are. Our home is a modest place with way less than 2,000 feet. During the summer months, we keep the temperature around 72 and dip it down to about 67 at night. I just logged into our utility bill company website and looked at what our June bill was projecting to be. My jaw hit the floor.
Here's the shock you should prepare for when it comes to your June utility bill
On average, my electric bill runs around $150 per month and sometimes even less than that. Well, guess what? For June, my electric bill is projected to nearly triple. I knew it would be higher, but the estimated bill right now may come close or top $400. Ouch.
There may be something you can do to ease the summer pain
The company I deal with (Ameren) does offer a plan where you can pay the same average amount every month instead of dealing with summer month shock. The downside is you'll pay more than you usually would in the winter, but it balances out the incredible jump many Missouri families see during the summer.
Go ahead and prepare yourself mentally for your June utility bill if you haven't dealt with it already. The cost of the recent heatwave is a painful one this year.
