The playground in Katy Park isn't just getting a refresh. Sedalia Parks & Recreation will build a new playground just in time to celebrate the park's 50th Anniversary.

The Park Board approved the installation of a brand-new playground at Katy Park last Thursday, August 18, 2024.

Parks & Recreation says the new playground will be installed this fall, providing a fresh, fun, and safe place for children to play and families to enjoy. From the picture provided by Sedalia Parks & Recreation, it looks like the centerpiece of the new playground will be the slide.

The slide looks like so much more than a slide; it's multiple slides that include stairs, ladders, and what looks like monkey bars. Aside from that slide, the playground has another slide, perhaps designed more for the little ones, swings, and even covered benches for mom and dad to sit while the kids play.

Sedalia Parks & Recreation says the current playground at Katy Park will close during construction. Residents should look for pictures and updates as the new park is built in the coming months.

The response on the Sedalia Parks & Recreation Facebook page has mainly been positive. Also, in response to a question about a playground update at Liberty Park, Sedalia Parks & Rec says that it is also in the works.
