People Can Pay Zero To Be An Insider With The MSHP
A while back, I took one of those voluntary "classes" called the Citizens Police Academy here in Sedalia. It was very cool, and sadly I didn't get to attend all the classes. Part of why I couldn't was because my ex-husband at the time was moving out. And while he's not a terrible person, I just didn't trust it. He wanted to move out on a Wednesday night when he knew I would be at the CAP. Nah, son. Even if you weren't gonna steal anything? Doesn't matter. I'm gonna be there.
But anyway, now the Missouri State Highway Patrol is hosting something quite similar, but more formal. It's still for civilians. Let me unpack that.
The Community Alliance Program is a unique opportunity for citizens to gain insight and understanding of the training and many duties of the Missouri State Highway Patrol...... It also offers a chance to meet and interact with troopers and civilian employees of the Patrol.
Okay, But What's Cool About That?
CHILD. They're going to talk about the good stuff ya'll. And there's all kinds of different topics. They'll handle things like criminal investigations, bomb squad equipment, aircraft operations, a drone demonstration, a canine demonstration, communications, a museum tour, an emergency vehicle operations course ride-along, SWAT, marine operations, and scenario-based exercises.
Just check out what the people who've done it before had to say.
You've Convinced Me. How Do I Get In On It?
Anyone interested in the program is encouraged to contact Sergeant Kyle A. Green at (573)751-1000 Ext. 3619. You can also directly apply here. But they do have different programs for teens and adults, so make sure you distinguish for right one.

You will have to pass a background check. And keep in mind, space is limited. If you find you can't sign up for a class, they're probably full. Check here to see what classes are coming up.
It sounds like a very interesting experience for the right person!
Learningly yours,
Behka
