Pettis County Officials Declare State of Emergency Due to Drought
Pettis County Commissioners have declared a state of emergency due to the extreme drought conditions in the county, according to Pettis County Fire Chief Mike Harding.
A press release from the Fire Chief on Wednesday afternoon stated that “the Pettis County Commission, Pettis County Sheriff's Department and Pettis County Fire Protection District #1 strongly discourages the discharge of any aerial fireworks, and reminds all Pettis County citizens that Pettis County remains under a burn ban.”
The burn ban was issued June 7, and consists of any open flame, with the exception of a barbecue grill with a lid.
“We are asking all citizens of Pettis County to do their part to prevent any unnecessary fires,” said Chief Harding.
“The Pettis County Commission, Pettis County Sheriff's Department and Pettis County Fire Protection District #1 wish everyone a safe and happy Fourth of July. Please celebrate safely and responsibly,” the press release concluded.
