Greetings to you, Gentle Reader!

I don't know if you know this about  me, but not only do I live under a rock, but I am a little old lady.  I am getting closer to Elderly every day, and the young people of the world remind me of that just as consistently.

Now  having said that, I do keep up with some stuff.  I do watch TikToks when I'm exercising (it's a bike).   I don't keep up with Facebook or Twitter..... I don't even HAVE an Instagram, and if there are other social media platforms, I don't know them.

I do keep up though with most stuff,.... like I know about Doechii, I watched the "Domingo" song go everywhere, and know all about the Kendrick and Drake fight, so... I'm not 100% clueless.

I mean, at this point, I'm pretty much just knowing what I need to know, you know?  Do I need to figure out another hip and cool way to say things via text messages?

No, of course not!  See, Key understands me. My friends are just as old if not older than me!  We're writing out full words in text messages.  Yes, we're sending silly Gifs too, but... we just talk like we talk.   However, one of my friends has a young son, who is about to join the ranks of Too Cool, because he's 11 going on 40.  So he was asking me, you know, the one who still uses TikTok and knows "the young people music", what on earth he was texting, so could be Cool Dad.

And it occurred to me, well, heck, if he wants to know this stuff, I bet there are other parents out there who want to know what the heck their kids are saying....without having to ask, which totally moves you to Uncool Territory.

Well, to the Googles I went!  And I found several things on Google Trends, and unscramblerer.com. One list I found were the top things we're searching for when it comes to texting.  Let's unpack this.

Top Ten Text Abbreviations Missourians Are Searching

  • 1. PMO - Put me on.
  • 2. OTP - One true pairing.
  • 3. NFS - New friends.
  • 4. TMB - Text me back.
  • 5. ICL - I Can't Lie.
  • 6. JS - Just sayin.
  • 7. ION - In other media.
  • 8. ATP - At this point.
  • 9. WYO - What you on?
  • 10. WTW - What's the word?

I admit, I haven't used some of these.  "Put me on"?  I thought it was something you said when someone is playing a joke on you.  Like, "Are you putting me on? Are you joking".  But that's not what it means!  It means means "introducing someone to something new, such as a product, trend, or opportunity."

Okay then, now we know.  And now, I hope, J, you can be a Cool Dad again.  And you, Gentle Reader, can talk with your Grandchildren or Children or Younger CoWorkers with ease.

Lol.

Textingly yours,
Behka
