Society is running out of time to save a part of our past that many want to be an even bigger part of our future. The outcry continues that Missouri drive-in theaters need to make a comeback.

I saw a share on the Missouri sub-Reddit which was one of the many I've heard from that miss the days of drive-in theaters. This person just visited one of the few remaining in Missouri in Moberly this past weekend.

Not a lot to do in Moberly, but i do enjoy heading up there for a movie now and then

The B&B Moberly Five & Drive is one of the few surviving drive-in theaters in Missouri and the fact that this past weekend they showed the new Beetlejuice movie is remarkable considering that most of these Missouri venues are relegated to only showing classic movies due to technical limitations.

Why aren't there more drive-in theaters still active in Missouri?

It's not an easy solution. Many drive-in theaters ceased operations when they realized it would cost tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars to upgrade their facilities to enable them to show new digital movies. It's hard to pay all the bills if you're only showing classic movies.

That being said, there are many including the commenters on Reddit who were many who love drive-in theaters for the experience more than the specific movie being shown. It was from a different era, but I know many families in Missouri who would go out of their way to support a drive-in theater. It's too bad that many of them have to road trip to Moberly to make that happen now.
