Sedalia Police Reports For January 9, 2023

Sunday night, Officers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of East 13th Street and South Ohio Avenue. It was reported that a truck had collided with several parked vehicles. The driver was found to be in possession of drugs, and intoxicated by drugs. Kenneth D. Dobson, 18, of Sedalia, was arrested for felony Possession of a Dangerous Drug, Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs), and Failure to Drive on the Right Half of the Roadway. Dobson was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in on a 24 hour hold.

Officers observed a truck early Sunday morning traveling westbound on Broadway Boulevard, in the area of South Carr Avenue. The vehicle was failing to maintain its lane, and was crossing over the yellow line. At South Limit Avenue, it stopped past the stop line. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the truck in the area of South Limit Avenue and West 14th Street. The driver was found to be intoxicated. Ryan M. Miller, 41, of Clinton, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Miller was taken to the Pettis County Jail to be booked pending release to a sober person.

Sedalia Police stopped a car in the area of East 13th Street and South Ohio Avenue early Saturday morning. The vehicle was showing indicators of impaired driving, including failing to maintain the right half of the roadway several times and failing to signal a turn. The driver was found to be intoxicated by drugs. Shanna R. Miller, 44, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs). Miller was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on that charge and a count of Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility.

Sunday night, Officers were dispatched to the Bothwell Regional Health Center, 601 East 14th Street for a report of a subject causing a disturbance. The subject was upset at the Bothwell staff for various reasons, and was asked to leave. When he was asked to leave, he took a stack of papers in hands and threw them at an Officer. Brandon T. Hopper, 48, of Sedalia, was then arrested for Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer in the 3rd Degree. Hopper was taken to the Pettis County Jail to be held pending charges.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of Ware Avenue Sunday morning in reference to a report of property damage. Blake Banner reported the incident occurred in the overnight hours at the residence, resulting in damage to the property. A report was made of the incident, but a suspect has not been located at this time.

Sunday afternoon, Officers responded to the Heckart Community Center, 1800 West 3rd Street, to perform a well-being check on a subject. On arrival, Officers located the subject sleeping. Officers attempted to wake up the subject. As the subject woke, a suspected methamphetamine pipe was observed near the subject's hand. He was then placed under arrest after a short struggle. Christian L. Gier, 45, Homeless, was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold pending charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Arrest.

Officers observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway near the intersection of North Heard Avenue and East Boonville Road Saturday evening. Officers conducted a vehicle check, speaking with the driver. He stated he had run out of gas, and was waiting on a friend to come bring him some. After a computer check through Dispatch, it was discovered the subject had an active warrant through Pettis County. Peter Jeffery Clawson, 53, of Sedalia, was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant on original charges of Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle. Clawson was arrested without incident and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be held on a $126 cash only bond.

Saturday evening, Officers took a report for fraudulent use of a credit or debit device. Officers spoke with Salma Khan, who stated someone used her Lowe's credit card (that had been previously stolen) at the Sedalia store. Information was collected, and a report was completed. There is not a suspect at the time of the report.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1700 block of West 3rd Street Saturday morning in reference to a possible theft. A subject was reported to have broken into a vehicle in the area, causing damage. The subject was located near the area of West 5th Street and South Barrett Avenue. Michael L. Waddle, 19, of Sedalia, was arrested for Stealing and Property Damage. It was then discovered that he was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Waddle was placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges of Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, Stealing from a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Dangerous Drug, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Late Saturday night, Officers responded to the 1800 block of South Lamine Avenue for a report of a possible physical domestic disturbance in progress. Upon arrival, the subjects were physically separated, but still arguing. Officers separated the subjects for investigation. Both subjects had minor injuries. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined, and a 12 hour log report was completed.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 10th Street Saturday evening for a report of a disturbance. An assault had occurred, and a 12 hour report was completed to document the incident. There was no further information in the report.

Friday afternoon, Officers responded to the 600 block of West 3rd Street for a report of a burglary. Officers spoke with Susan Warlen, who stated that when she arrived at the residence, she found the back door open and a window open on the garage. It has not yet been determined what was stolen from the residence. No suspects have been identified at this time.

Sedalia Police responded to DIY Garage, 110 West 7th Street, for a report of theft Friday morning. Officers spoke with Beth Arnold, the business owner. Arnold reported a U-Haul trailer was stolen on or before December 13th, 2022. The trailer was valued at $15,000. At the time of the report, a suspect has not been located.

On the afternoon of January 7th, Officers responded to the Wal Mart store, 3201 West Broadway Boulevard, in reference to a prior theft. Officers spoke with Asset Protection. The Asset Protection Associate provided video and documentation of the theft. The suspect has been identified.

Sedalia Police responded to the Break Time store, 101 Rebar Road Saturday afternoon for a report of a trespassing issue. Upon arriving, contact was made with management. They advised the suspect needed to be trespassed from the property. Contact was made with the suspect. A computer check of his information revealed an outstanding Pettis County warrant for his arrest on charges of Assault in the 4th Degree. Thomas Ray Kamphefner, 53, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Kamphefner was given a cash or surety bond of $1500 and was issued a Trespass Warning for the Break Time property.

Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Engineer Avenue and East Howard Street Saturday morning. The driver was found to have a revoked license. Andres Munzo, 35, of Sedalia, was arrested and released at the scene with a summons for Driving While Revoked. Munzo was given a court date in February.

Friday evening, Officers responded to the Woods East, 701 East Broadway Boulevard, for a report of a theft that had just occurred. Officers located three subjects matching the description given by staff at Woods. While speaking with the subjects, Officers attempted to detain one for Officer safety. He began physically resisting. While Officers were detaining one subject, another fled on foot and was pursued by Officers. A perimeter was established, and the subject was quickly apprehended after a successful track by K9 Rocky. Jonathan C. Evans, 18, of Concordia, was arrested for Shoplifting and Resisting Arrest. There was no further information in the report.

Officers served a search warrant in the 1000 block of South Harrison Avenue on December 21st. Some of the items recovered were confirmed to have been stolen from the Hobby Lobby store, 4125 West Broadway Boulevard. The items have been returned to the store and charges are being requested.

Friday afternoon, Detectives and members of the Crime Resolution Unit made contact with a wanted individual near the Oak Tree Manor Trailer Park, in the 2800 block of South Ingram Avenue. The subject's warrants were confirmed. One was issued after she absconded from her parole in Missouri on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Another was a probation violation warrant issued by the Wyandotte County Kansas Bureau of Investigation for failing to report on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Both were confirmed, and both were no bond warrants. Paris C. Hill, 29, Homeless, was transported to the Pettis County Jail, where she was being held pending the filing of formal charges on the warrants as well as a charge of Fugitive from Justice.
