Smelling Your Partner’s Dirty Shirt Can Help You Sleep Better
As I tell NJ all the time, love is all about enjoying the unique scent of your partner—even if it’s a little bit of body odor! No, seriously. I do the thing where when NJ wears a hoodie or sweater to work, he then brings it to me at the end of the day, and then if I get cold in the evening, I put it on. THEN, the item of clothing can go to the washing machine. And apparently it's not just my weirdness that brings this to you today, gentle reader - it's SCIENCE.
A recent study from the University of British Columbia in Canada reveals that if you're in a long-distance relationship or your partner is away, you can actually sleep better by snuggling up with one of their shirts.

In the study, participants wore a shirt for 24 hours without any deodorant, perfume, or cologne. Their partners then got to sleep with those fragrant shirts placed over their pillows, while some others used unscented shirts for comparison.
The results were pretty exciting! Those who inhaled their partner’s scent during the night experienced better sleep quality, felt more refreshed, and even gained over an extra hour of sleep each week. The researchers found that sleeping with your loved one's T-shirt can offer the same cozy benefits as taking sleep aids like melatonin supplements. So, the next time your partner is away, don’t hesitate to borrow their shirt for a little extra comfort!
You can thank me later.
Smellily yours,
Behka
