Back when I was growing up, Halloween seemed a lot simpler. I'd tell my Mom what I wanted to be, which was usually Superman or Batman, and she'd go out and buy one of those plastic costumes with the masks that made it hard to breathe. Then I'd go trick-or-treating around our suburban neighborhood, make sure I hit the guy who worked for 7-Up, who always gave out free soda, and headed home. These days, between schedules, stranger danger, and all the rest of it, Halloween seems more structured around events.

While the number of kids who pop up my door dwindles every year, the number of businesses, churches, civic organizations, and groups that program for kids and their parents seems to be increasing, offering more and more opportunities for kids to trick-or-treat in a safe environment.

This year's events include plenty of trunk-or-treats organized by local churches, such as Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sedalia, Grover Baptist Church in Warrensburg, and La Monte Christian Church.

There's downtown trick-or-treating on Halloween in Holden and Sedalia, as well as exciting trunk-or-treats or even larger events by area businesses and employers like Apex Mechanical, Hy-Vee of Warrensburg, Load King, Owens Corning, and more.

The good news is that a Halloween event should work with your family's schedule between this coming weekend and Halloween. Keep scrolling to check out our list of mostly trunk-or-treat events. If a business or organization is just listed with their address along with the day and time of the event, it's most likely a trunk-or-treat. Events that are a little bit more like a fall festival or something larger are noted by the name of the event included with whatever organization, business, or church is sponsoring it.
