An Open Letter To The House With a Christmas Tree Still Up in April
Gentle Reader, today, I have a little something to get off my chest. Admittedly, I'm not a person who spends a lot of time seasonally decorating my house. NJ and I put up a tree at Christmas, and honestly that was as far as we went.
Every morning, I drive down a certain street here in Sedalia. Its zero dark thirty, and at that time, it's easier to see lights in the darkness. There is a house on this certain street who appears to have a Christmas tree with orange lights still up, prominently displayed in a front window. I'm not going to say where it is, because that would be weird. But you've probably seen it. This is an open letter to that family.
Dearest Whoever You Are,
I see your décor every morning. The lights almost look like they're Halloween colored. But it definitely looks like a pine tree in the window.
While I normally might chide someone for having Christmas decorations up all year...you, friend, are an exception. I don't know if it's really a Christmas Tree or if it's something else, but either way, I like it. You fly in the face of convention and tradition, and do your own thing. I like that you kept up something you loved, and didn't give too many thoughts to who would see it. I love the stubbornness if it's a Christmas Tree, and I am intrigued to find out more if it isn't a Christmas Tree. I did do some Googling to see if it might be a Seasonal Something or Else, but I quickly put an end to that. Why? Because I like looking at your little bush/tree/whatever it is every morning. I like coming up with a little story about why it's there. I love coming up with little stories about WHAT it is. And if you like it, who cares what I think?
You keep doing you. I'll keep driving by and giving it a glance. But do know I'm giving you a little pleasant wish every morning as I drive by.

What do you think? Do you think it's a Christmas Tree, or is it some other kind of decoration? Would you have it up in your house?
Christmassly yours,
Behka
