Reward Teachers This Christmas With Spectacular Gifts They Actually Want
If you're thinking about giving your child's teacher a gift this month, it's great to know what they would truly appreciate!
Now if you're thinking that helping teachers all year around, of course there are all kinds of ways to help. Here are a few ways you can support teachers this school year: Donate supplies, volunteer to help out, attend school board meetings, nominate them for outstanding teacher awards, and play an active role in your kid's learning by doing things like helping them with homework.
But I'm sure you do that where you can. How can you show your kid's teachers this Christmas that you really appreciate them, specifically?
A survey of 800 teachers found some popular gift ideas that are often thoughtful and don’t have to break the bank—some can even be free! In fact, a big 52% of teachers said they would be thrilled to receive handwritten cards or letters from their students.
Here are the top five gifts that teachers really love:
1. Handwritten letters – 52%
2. Cash or gift cards – 45%
3. Classroom supplies – 33%
4. Personal items like scarves or coffee mugs – 28%
5. Packaged treats like cookies or candy – 24%
On the flip side, the one gift they’d prefer to avoid is alcohol. Many teachers don’t drink, and receiving it from a child can feel a bit awkward. (It’s also a little strange for parents to give it, like saying, “Here’s something to help you survive my tricky child this year!”) So, stick to the heartfelt gifts—your teacher will appreciate the thought!
Teachingly yours,
