Sometimes, the primary purpose of a garage is to store your vehicle out of the elements, and maybe some other things like your lawn mower, snow blower, gardening tools, and that sort of stuff. Of course, over time, different things make their way to the garage for storage—boxes of clutter you want out of the house. Leftover items like paint and tools from home improvement projects. Maybe a beer fridge lives in the corner. Yet, not everything is appropriate to keep in a garage.

Danley's Garage World wrote an article about some items you shouldn't keep in your garage, especially if the garage is heated or cooled. Some of the items seemed like no-brainers, while others surprised me. The bottom line is that paying attention to what you store in your garage and what you don't may help you protect the items you store. It may also prevent you from dealing with a rodent—or insect-infested garage or, worse, a fire.

According to Danley's, if you plan to store chemicals or hazardous materials in your garage, it's crucial to do your research. Keeping these chemicals or dangerous items in the garage does not elevate the fire risk, and placing them in an unheated area that experiences extreme temperatures won't compromise their integrity.
