I know a lot of us are very protective of our families, and naturally, we want what's best for them.

So that's why I thought it was pretty important to let you guys know about something that came through to my email this morning.  They're just letting us know in advance, so nobody panics if they happen to drive by or hear something about it through the grapevine.

Anyway, here's the skinny.

Pettis County Health Center will be closed on Thursday, July 13, 2023 to allow employees to participate in a community wide exercise. The exercise will focus on the evacuation of a long term care facility due to a power failure during extremely hot weather. The exercise will be occurring between 9 am and 1 pm. No disruption to community services is anticipated however those in the western part of Sedalia may see movement of “actors” between long term care facilities and “actors” at Bothwell Regional Health Center and Sedalia Surgical Center. No long term care residents will be moved.

So don't panic, guys.  Nobody's moving your elderly relative anywhere.  Basically they are working with volunteers to be sure that IF something happens where a care facility loses power due to heat, they're prepared.

So yes, if you're working or at home in that part of town, you might see people moving to and fro in vans or trucks, but they aren't moving anybody who is fragile or unwell. And they don't anticipate any disruption of services either.  So that says to me if you're planning on going to see your elderly Dad for lunch tomorrow, you should be able to just fine.  It's just that you'll see a bit more activity outside and around the place than you normally would.

And with us being right smack in the dog days of summer, it's always good to have a back up plan in place.  They last from July 3rd to August 11th . . . so we've got about another 4 weeks left.

Here's hoping they never have to do this stuff for real. But thanks for letting us know, PCCH!

Actorly yours,
