City of Sedalia Declares Civil Emergency
Mayor John Kehde decalred a 30 day civil emergency for the City of Sedalia.
The City of Sedalia Civil Emergency Declaration, as it's officially known, outlines what the City is expecting of it's residents, visitors, and businesses over the next 30 days. Many of the elements of the order are things that the CDC, the president, the governor and local health officials have been asking the public to do:
- If you or any of your family members feel sick, stay home. Contact your medical provider, or if you do not have a medical provider contact the Bothwell Regional Health Walk In Clinic, AFC Urgent Care, Katy Trail Community Health or the Pettis County Health Department.
- If someone in your household has tested positive for the coronavirus, keep the entire household home. Contact the help line at 660-851-7686. The help line can find you assistance so you can continue to have your basic needs met while keeping everyone home.
- Older folks, and or those with underlying health problems (medical conditions that impair your heart, lungs or immune system) should stay home and away from other people.
- Healthy individuals are asked to work from home as much as possible. Avoid social gatherings larger than 10 people. Use take out, delivery, and curb side options when patronizing restaurants and bars. Avoid gyms and other indoor and outdoor areas that are hard to clean and sanitize. Avoid discretionary travel, shopping trips and social visits. Maintain social distancing, at least six feet from others while in public.
- Those who work in critical infrastructure positions, as defined by Homeland Security, should continue to report to work normally or as directed by your employer. Your employer should be following CDC guidance to protect you at work.
- Practice good hygiene like frequently washing your hands for 20 seconds. Not touching your face, mouth or nose. Sneeze and cough into your elbow or the inside of a tissue, and then washing your hands. Disinfect frequently used items and surfaces as much as possible.
- Businesses shall adhere to these rules and take precautions to protect their employees and patrons. Any business where this is not practical should close.
The order then goes to describe how the City of Sedalia is trying to slow or stop the spread of COVID-19 at City facilities and for City employees:
- All City facilities are now limited access for employees only, many departments have employees working remotely.
- All park facilities are closed to the public, and parks are limited access. Shelters and playground equipment are off limits and not to be used.
- Solid waste pickup procedures have been modified.
- For graveside funeral services, nonessential surfaces like chairs have been eliminated. Social distancing is encouraged.
- Municipal Court has been delayed.
- Use of technology to conduct essential meetings virtually, while still providing access and transparency to the public.
The order also reminds citizens that we are all in this situation together, and that it takes personal responsibility for us all to get through it together. The City will continue to monitor the situation closely and will continue to seek the guidance of health care providers and will continue to provide updates to citizens.
