Benton County S.O. Makes Significant Drug Seizure In Cole Camp
The Benton County Sheriff's Office has announced that the Mid-Missouri Drug Task Force helped remove a plethora of drugs from the streets during a traffic stop just before 7:00 PM on Friday, July 12, 2024, according to a post on the Benton County MO Sheriff's Office Facebook page.
Police conducted a traffic stop near the 52 Highway and Centerline Avenue junction in Cole Camp. The vehicle's driver, Carlos M. Hernandez, 32, of Olathe, Kansas, was found to have an active warrant related to narcotics from Platt County, Missouri. While waiting for warrant confirmation, police had a K9 sniff the vehicle, and the dog alerted. That resulted in a search of the vehicle.
Deputies found a plethora of narcotics and drug-related equipment. Police seized approximately 41 grams of methamphetamine, 1.2 grams of cocaine, four hits of LSD, 7 grams of shrooms, and a variety of mind-altering hallucinogens. 85 pills were counted and recovered.
In addition to the driver, Angela F. Barr, also of Olathe, Kansas, was arrested for her involvement. Both suspects were charged with Trafficking Drugs 2nd Degree, a class C Felony; Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class D Felony; and Unlawful use of Drug Paraphernalia. They are both held in the Benton County Jail with a $100,000 surety bond.
The Sheriff's Office also mentioned that this is one of those cases in which having an animal shelter would have been helpful in Benton County. The suspects had been traveling with a small dog, and after their arrests and the vehicle being towed, they didn't have anyone to call and pick the dog up. Fortunately, the Sheriff's Office says, someone was able to pick the dog up and keep it safe.
