Guys, I know one of my favorite "work related" things to do is to compare misheard lyrics or funny lyrics to songs we know and love.

How many times have you sang along with a song, using the wrong lyrics? Sometimes you do it on purpose, right?  I mean, everyone has sang, "Hold me Closer, Tony Danza" at least once.  Or the most famous, "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy".  You get it.

Well, the British newspaper The Independent put out a list of what they're calling "Embarrassing" lyrics.  And most of them are.  Some of them are just idiotic, and some are mistakes, but all in all, it's good fun without any malice in it.

Well, I gotta say, they missed one. A  big one, in my opinion. And I wonder if it's because they're British, and turn a blind eye to the lyrical genius of their own.

Namely, this guy.

If you don't remember or know who that is, that's Noel Gallagher. He is, or was, the primary songwriter for the band Oasis. I'm not coming from a place of criticism - I was a huge Oasis fan in the nineties and 2000's.

See, now you remember. Noel is well known for being a great songwriter. However, he is also known for wearing his influences on his sleeve, and riding the line of plagiarism. And sometimes, his lyrics are brilliant. Example?

What tongue less ghost of sin crept through my curtains?
Sailing on a sea of sweat on a stormy night
I think he don't got a name but I can't be certain
And in me he starts to confide

Tongueless ghost of sin? Now that's evocative. And very specific! However, for every great Noel Lyric, there is one of these.

Take me Away, just for today
Cos I'm sad here on my own
I'd like to be under the sea
But I'd probly need a phone

Yes, yes, you would. Now don't get excited, I know it's partially a reference to a big influence of Noel's (and admittedly, mine), The Beatles. Specifically the song Octopus' Garden. But come on, man.

blown.
clone.
cone.
crone.
drone.
flown.
groan.
grown.

There are so many other words you could rhyme with "own". And would probably fit better into the theme of the song. "I'd like to be, under the sea, but my cover would be blown" would fit. So would "I'd like to be under the sea, but I know that you have flown" would work, too.
