SFD Adds Firefighter Belardo To Its Ranks
The Sedalia Fire Department added a new firefighter to its ranks on Nov. 17.
Nathan Belardo was pinned with a badge by his father, Missouri State Highway Patrolman Daren C. Belardo, at the start of a City Council meeting. Trooper Belardo was assigned to Zone 13 in 2011.
Also, a push-in ceremony is scheduled for Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m., for the City’s new aerial truck at the SFD’s headquarters at 2606 W. 16 Street.
The public is invited to help “push in” the new T-2 fire truck into service.
The tradition dates back to the 1800s, when firefighters manually pushed horse-drawn fire carts into the station after a call because the horses couldn't back them up.
Today, it is a symbolic event that honors history and welcomes new apparatus, and it can also include community members.
The last push-in ceremony at the SFD was held on a rainy day on March 25, 2024.

The SFD also added two new squad trucks to its fleet recently at a cost of $411,050 from Feld Fire Equipment. It was noted that the squad trucks could handle many calls for service in Sedalia that don’t require an aerial truck response.
Ground was broken in mid-October for Sedalia’s new fire station and training facility on East Broadway. The land is bordered by East Broadway, East 5th Street, South Hancock and the Katy Trail.
The new fire station will occupy space next to Memory Lanes Bowling Alley and an E-Sports center.
