Spooky Season is Officially here, you guys! It's Fall Festival time.

And sure, that's good for the kids, but.... what about the Real horror lovers?  You know what I mean. The people who have been detangling their nylon spider webs in the garage for a few weeks now.  The people that have been planning how they're going to scare the kids Trick or Treating since July.  The people that have been lovingly piecing together a terrifying costume, debating on the merits of thin liquid fake blood, as opposed to a more gel type fake blood.  You know, those people who look forward to this all year round.

Sometimes, well, it's just not appropriate to wear your Michael Myers costume to the church Fall Festival.

I know. It's ridiculous.

BUT! Scarers of West Central Missouri, have I got an opportunity for you.  About an hour from here, there's a sweet little town called Cross Timbers.  Anyway, they have a rural fire department (it's volunteer, non-profit) that really needs you to bring your A Game.

We are having a fundraiser October 18 and 19, Friday and Saturday from 7:00-11:00 PM in the Cross Timbers City Square 12808 Park Street.  There will be a Haunted Hayride, Kids Games, S’mores, Wienie Roast, Ghost Stories, Costume Contest at 7:30 PM, Bring your own decorated Pumpkin Contest 7:30 PM, Piñata 8:00 PM  and more.  There will also be prizes for the best haunted themed sites.  If you are interested in volunteering to help haunt the hayride, let me know.  We recommend younger kids come between 7:00 and 9:00 PM.  The ride gets scarier as the night goes on.

Yeeeees, this is where we need you, scarers.  We need some creepy clowns and bloody vampires and spooky ghosts and crazy serial killers, ya'll.  Think of it as a great way to do a dry run on your costume before Halloween proper.  And you know you'll have an amazing time helping to support a good cause.   Here's an idea of the kind of stuff they're looking for.  You know, the scuuuury stuff.

So, if you wanna volunteer, call Barb at 417-322-2626.

Barb also filled me in a little about the event, and honestly, if you're not into the scary stuff, you won't miss out.  The first couple hours of the event are meant for the littler ones, or the squeamish ones, or the scaredy-cats, whatever category you're in.  So if you can't handle too much fright, you can show up a bit early for the games, prizes, snacks, the pumpkin decorating contest (bring yours), all that good stuff.  They'll have scary stories by the fire and you can roast the hot dogs and smores yourselves.

Either way, make your plans now to attend their event on October 18th and 19th.  IT's only ten bucks for the adults, and five bucks for kids ten and under.  Here's the map Barb sent me if you need an idea where Cross Timbers is.

If you wanna just GPS it, it's 12808 Park Street, aka the Cross Timbers Square (Park Street and Kirby Street).

Alright, scary people of West Central Missouri.  Let's get those makeup pallets dusted off, those wigs brushed, and those pants stained, AND LET'S SCARE THE HECK OF EVERYBODY.

For a good cause. Not because it's fun. It's for charity, you guys.

Scarily yours,
Behka

LOOK: How Halloween has changed in the past 100 years

Stacker compiled a list of ways that Halloween has changed over the last 100 years, from how we celebrate it on the day to the costumes we wear trick-or-treating. We’ve included events, inventions, and trends that changed the ways that Halloween was celebrated over time. Many of these traditions were phased out over time. But just like fake blood in a carpet, every bit of Halloween’s history left an impression we can see traces of today.
