Maple Syrup Goldfish Are Here For Christmas (Epic or Weird?)
Everyone, I don't know about you, but when I am in a relationship, I try to do nice things for the other person. If I see something they might enjoy, for example, I'll tell them about it.
Or if there's a restaurant they'd like to try, I'll take them there if I can. However, with it being the holiday season, NJ has encouraged me not to spend a lot of money on him. In fact, I'm not Really supposed to buy him anything for Christmas. I'm supposed to "go in" with his Mom on a bigger present. Which is fine.
But when I see little things he would like? I'm on that nonsense on the daily.
One thing NJ loves to snack on are Goldfish crackers. He'll have some while he's playing video games or watching football, or playing Pokémon Go. He's tried all sorts of flavors. He's tried Old Bay flavored, Strawberry Shortcake flavored, Pumpkin Spice flavored, Spicy Dill Pickle, Frank's Red Hot... you name it, he's tried it.
Dude likes Goldfish.
So anyway, I saw this at the People's Republic of Walton and decided to pick it up.
I got two bags, though, Dear Reader, so I could give him one and share my thoughts with you in the other.
These are limited edition to help celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Elf movie. Which I know a lot of people love! I've seen it, and it was fun.
Now what did I expect going into this? Reading about the crackers, it seemed positive.Pepperidge Farm says they have “flavors like sweet brown sugar and butter, and the taste of caramel and vanilla.” Okay. Standard fare.
Gentle Reader. When I tell you, this does not give anything to me but buttered pancakes with a splash of maple syrup, I am not kidding. I thought these would be basically graham crackers with a little maple flavor.
These aren't even really maple syrup flavor, they're... maple syrup and a LOT of butter. In fact, butter was the most obvious flavor I got from the get go. It definitely wasn't a "love it from first bite" scenario. It took me a second to even be able to process this, and the knee jerk reaction was.... negative.
However, after a few minutes I got what they were putting down. It just... why so much butter? It says it's maple syrup, and it, well, does taste like that. Actually it tastes like you put a pat of butter in your mouth, and then drank the last few swigs from that old bottle of maple syrup in the fridge you feel like you should use up before you open the new bottle.
If you like that.... okay. This is for you. It's not for me.
Them Strawberry Shortcake ones were fire, though.
What do you think? Will you try these? What are your favorites?
Syrupily yours,
Behka
