What We Know About Quik Trip Returning To Sedalia
Rumors of Sedalia getting a Quik Trip convenience store have been floating around since the second half of the summer. Here's what we know at the moment.
Quik Trip is a privately held convenience store headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It has 1,000 stores in 17 states and 31,000 employees. According to its website, "Quik Trip has consistently been ranked as one of the top convenience store marketers in product quality and friendly service."
Many know Quik Trip as a great place to fuel and grab something off the roller grill. OR something more extravagant from the kitchens in many of their stores. So, what do we know about Quik Trip coming to Sedalia?
There is not much information outside of the persistent rumors going around. We know that Quik Trip has acquired the old Advance Auto Parts store at 1808 West Broadway and the parcel next to it that was home to an architectural firm at 1806 West Broadway, near the corner of Broadway and Limit Avenue. They have not bought the corner lot that houses a cell phone store. This information comes from Beacon Schneider Corporation and is available on their website.
One interesting note on the Beacon Schneider entry is their spelling of Quik Trip. They're spelling it "Quick". I did a web search of the name Quick Trip and also asked ChatGPT to see what it could find out about Quick Trip, specifying it does not include results for Quik Trip or Kwik Trip, the two known convenience stores, and my search and Chat GPT both came up empty. ChatGPT suggested it could be a local or regional entity without a web presence; however, a business name would usually pop up somewhere on the net, even if it was just in a business database.
I think it's a misspelling on the Becaon Schneider site, but I mention it to be transparent about my research and point out that it could be a completely different entity from Quik Trip.
Townsquare Media Sedalia-Warrensburg reached out for confirmation from Quik Trip that they had bought the land and asked if they had any information they were willing to share about Quik Trip coming to Sedalia; however, they did not respond to our inquiries.
While it may be tempting to point to Quik Trip's purchase of those parcels as a smoking gun tipping off the convenience store's return to Sedalia, I'd point out that, at this point, it's nothing more than a real estate transaction.
If they build there, it could be years before Quik Trip puts a store on the land. Whatever their plans are, they may not succeed and end up selling the parcels they bought.
It reminds me of something that happened while I was in Lubbock. A new lifestyle shopping center was built in the city. One of the outlet parcels was purchased by In-N-Out Burger. The rumors came fast and furious that In-N-Out was coming to Lubbock. As time went on, the shopping center was opened. Outlet parcels that included Panera Bread, a Steakhouse, and more opened, yet In-N-Out never came. Two or three years after acquiring the land, In-N-Out Burger sold the land and never came to Lubbock.
So don't take a bite of that hot dog off the roller grill just yet. It may be a while before we have any clarity on whether Quik Trip is coming to Sedalia or not. For now, they own a couple of buildings near the corner of Broadway and Limit.
