Guys, I'm a tryer.  I guess you could say since I've become an adult, I always want to try new things and give 'em a go.

I mean, we did the Sedalia Snack Squad there for a hot minute until people got tired of it.  And we always let you know if there's something trending that sounds interesting.

Now this one, I admit, I didn't hear about from any crazy trend.  I saw it in a video for a cooking show I watch on the regular.

I went ahead and fast forwarded to the part they're talking about if you want to watch it.  I'd recommend it, but then, I've been watching Sorted pretty much every week for the last ten years or so, so I might be biased.  They're funny little British friends that cook.

If you don't want to watch it, basically, there's a new drink idea that came from the depths of the internet - Dr. Pepper with pickles.  Yes, that's a thing. And it specifically says you should stop by Sonic to do it.

So you know I had to!  In the interests of full disclosure, I went to the Sonic over on Broadway by Kentucky.  I pulled in on a rainy Tuesday morning and made sure to apologize first of all - I'm sure they hear strange things like this all the time.

Well, turns out, the Sonic staff were NOT surprised, grossed out, anything.  I didn't hear any of that tell tale "eye roll" you hear about, like when people order things from a 'secret menu' that's, you know, really just a pain in their hind ends. Nope, this seemed normal. They've heard of it, and they approve.  The lady taking my order and my car hop, Tayler, sensed my skepticism. She told me it was a good time and I would like it.

SO, here goes.

In a stroke of genius, the lady did tell me I could get an upgrade to a large for a lesser price, so... sure. I took that.

I admit, I was worried about how many pickles would be in there, and if it would end up being pickles with a side of drink.  But nope, it was just four pickles in a regular Dr. Pepper drink.

Firstly, I had a drink and realized it was probably still not mixed up all the way, because it was just Dr. Pepper.  But after a quick stir, I got Dr. Pepper with an aftertaste of... dill.  I don't know if they do anything else like, maybe throw some pickle juice in there too, or what, but it's strong, but not overpowering. I mean, I looked - there are only four pickles in the cup. And honestly, I don't even get the pickle taste until I've swallowed.  There isn't an overall smell to it, either.  But do know these are the dill pickles you get on sammitches, so they're not sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles.  Just pickles.

My thoughts?  It was okay.  I imagine this would be a huge hit with pregnant ladies.  Or that guy in accounting that always has a pickle with his lunch.  Or that girl you know that loves all things pickle and may or may not have already tried this (JANA).  It's sweet, but not too sweet, and has a little bit of that vinegary dill finish.

If you're into pickles, you'll love it.  If you hate pickles, skip it.  If you wanna try it though and aren't sure, it's only like, a buck.  So you're not mortgaging the farm on this one.  Maybe try it when you need something to wake you up that isn't coffee?  Overall, I think it was alright, and I might even try it again.  That's huge, for me.

What do you think? Have you tried pickles in your drink? Would you try it?

Picklingly yours,

Behka
