Sedalia & Boonville Selected As Friendliest Towns In Missouri
World Atlas named Sedalia and Boonville two of Missouri's six friendliest towns to visit. The article from last year examined the six friendliest towns, including Hermann, Van Buren, West Plains, and Kimmswick.
World Atlas likes Boonville because it's a river town with a lively arts and cultural scene and one of the larger towns on the Katy Trail. They also mention the visitor's center at the trailhead and a museum about its history. They also like that the town intersects with the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. Outside of trails, they mention the city's history and suggest visiting the Old Jail and Hanging Barn, built in 1848, and the Mitchell Antique Motorcar Museum, which features the world's most extensive collection of Mitchell motorcars and wagons dating from the late 19th Century.
Frankly, their entry for Boonville doesn't address the article's topic: friendly towns. Don't get me wrong; I've enjoyed Boonville the couple of times I've been there. In my limited experience, it is pleasant, yet the article talks more about things to do than what makes it friendly.
World Atlas does a slightly better job with Sedalia. Their blurb about our town starts by calling us friendly, mentioning our fun vibe and homegrown pride in its diverse history and heritage. They also say the fairgrounds, the Missouri State Fair, the Katy Depot and Heritage Railroad Museum, and the Katy Trail are all worth experiencing.
While I can't vouch for Boonville's friendliness, Sedalia's friendliness is one of the things that made working in Sedalia attractive to me. It was one of the first things I noticed about the town. Working for the town's radio stations gave me a slightly different experience than someone else. Still, those friendly experiences I had while just temporarily filling in helped me decide I wanted to make Sedalia home and is a big part of the reason I'm here.
So yes, if you're not a Sedalian, I'd encourage you to visit. Hang out and enjoy our town and the people. And if you're a Sedalian, thanks for being friendly. I've been a few places and this is one of the best.
