Sedalia Democrat Moving Office; Closing Pressroom in Sedalia
The Sedalia Democrat recently announced they're going to move offices in Sedalia, close their press room, and move printing operations for four local publications to a company-owned printing plant in Springfield. This is according to an article on the Sedalia Democrat's own website.
Nowata Printing Company in Springfield, owned by the Democrat's parent company, will take over the printing of the Sedalia Democrat, the Warrensburg Star-Journal, The Plainsman, and the Star-Advertiser sometime this spring before the Sedalia Democrat moves from their long time office on Massachusetts Avenue.
Changing where the papers are printed will not impact print subscribers according to the newspaper's report.
The paper's offices will move this spring to 111 West Fourth Street in the building previously occupied by the Sedalia Water Department. The paper has purchased the building and renovations are scheduled to start soon, with the paper's office moving in May.
Publisher Will Weibert is quoted in the Democrat's own story:
While I know change can be hard, especially for a long-standing company like the Sedalia Democrat that has been operating for more than 150 years, this change is in the best interest of our employees and our readers. I’m looking forward to being a part of the next chapter in the Democrat’s long history and continuing our service of quality journalism, just in a new home.
It's not the first time the Democrat has had offices on Fourth Street. In 1911 the Democrat - Sentenial was located across the street at 108-110 W. Fourth Street.
