Sedalia Police Reports For June 16, 2023

On the morning of June 11th, a Patrol Officer investigated an audible alarm at Yeager’s Cycle, 3001 South Limit Avenue. During the investigation, it was determined that entry was forced into one of the buildings, and a 2023 Polaris UTV was stolen. That same day, Officers responded to Premier Realty, 3611 South Limit Avenue, for a report of burglary, theft, and property damage. It was determined someone damaged two vehicles on the property, and then gained access to a portion of the building. Once in the building, multiple tools were stolen. Flatline Automotive, 3913 South Limit Avenue, reported later that morning a GMC truck was stolen from their parking lot. Another vehicle had damage to the ignition. The stolen truck was later recovered. Late that same night, The Missouri State Highway Patrol attempted to stop a U-Haul truck in the 3000 block of South Limit Avenue. The driver, Kenneth H. Steenstry, 39, of Kansas City, refused to stop. Steenstry was eventually taken into custody in Carroll County, Missouri. During a search of the U-Haul, the stolen Polaris Ranger UTV was located in the cargo area. The next day (June 12th), the Sedalia Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Bureau began investigating the burglaries, thefts, and incidents of property damage. Evidence was gathered that connects Steenstry to all the incidents. Steenstry was questioned at the Pettis County Jail. Officers are requesting charges of Tampering with A Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, two counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Property Damage in the 1st Degree, Property Damage in the 2nd Degree, and two counts of felony Stealing. Steenstry was held pending a cash or surety bond of $25,000.

Officers were working a potential theft case that had just occurred at the Casey’s store, 1601 East Broadway Boulevard in the early morning hours of June 12th. Another subject arrived on scene, and immediately became confrontational. The subject, a sex offender, was observed operating a vehicle not registered under the subject’s sex offender registry as required by Missouri State Statute. Charges are being requested on the unnamed suspect for Failure to Register As A Sex Offender.

Sedalia Police responded to the Burger King restaurant, 1101 South Limit Avenue early Friday morning to investigate a report of a potential counterfeit $20 bill. The business’s counterfeit machine would not accept the bill. No charges are being pursued, but the bill was taken for destruction.

Thursday morning, Officers were dispatched to the area of East 17th Street and South Washington Avenue for reports of a subject slumped at the wheel of a car with the dome light on. The driver was intoxicated by drugs, and in possession of drugs. Tiffany Marie Hansen, 34, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and taken to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold. Hansen was booked in on state charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Drugs), felony Trafficking in the 1st Degree, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Wednesday night, an SUV was stopped in the area of West Broadway Boulevard and South State Fair Boulevard for moving violations. It was also suspected the driver’s Missouri driving privileges were suspended. Luis Daniel Santiago Garcia, 49, of Sedalia, was arrested for a felony charge of Driving Without a License. Officers are also submitting a charge of Driving While Suspended. Garcia was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24-hour hold.

Sedalia Police responded to the area of South Warren Avenue between West Broadway Boulevard and West 7th Street to investigate a traffic crash Wednesday night. A vehicle had struck a utility pole. The driver fled on foot, but was ultimately located and arrested by law enforcement. Elias Gonzalez Valencia, 26, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender), Driving While Revoked, and felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Valencia was placed on a 24-hour hold at the Pettis County Jail.

Thursday morning, Officers spoke with a city employee who had located multiple items in the alleyway near West 2nd Street and South Osage Avenue. The items were placed into evidence as found property.

Officers spoke to Nancy C. Sims-Van Buren Thursday morning at the Police Station. Sims-Van Buren reported her personal information had been stolen and compromised from the 400 block of West Broadway Boulevard. The victim reported she had applied online for a loan, and her bank later verified the company was a fraud.

Thursday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to a private property hit and run crash at the Arby’s restaurant, 2701 West Broadway Boulevard. Amy Curran stated she was inside her gray 2014 Buick Lacrosse with the driver’s side door open when a gray in color Jeep started backing up. The Jeep’s front left tire struck the driver’s door of the Buick, and then left the scene without providing any information. The driver door of the Buick was damaged, and would not close properly.

Thursday evening, Officers responded to the area of South Washington Avenue and East 16th Street to investigate a minor motor vehicle crash. Debra L. Durham, 57, of Mexico Missouri, was arrested on her Parole Violation warrant from Boone County dating from 1996 on original charges of Driving While Intoxicated – Excessive BAC (Prior Offender). Durham was transported to the Pettis County Jail pending a cash or surety bond of $2500.
