The Rise Of Pain-Free Tattoos: General Anesthesia’s Role In Modern Body Art
So a lot of you out there have some tattoos, so this might be some breaking news! Well, I am not really a tattoo person, but I am in love with one. NJ is a dude who loves tattoos. He has some nice, kinda scary ones.
See? Scary lookin. He's not as scary when he's baby talking to the kitten, but I digress.
I've never had one, partially because I've never had something that I knew I wanted permanently written on my body forever. And partially because of what I would call the "Wuss Factor". Pain hurts me. If only there was a way to do it without pain.....? Well, this seems like an intriguing and terrifying solution.
There's apparently a new trend of people GOING UNDER GENERAL ANESTHESIA while getting tattooed.
The benefits are obvious: You wouldn't have to worry about needles, pain, and boredom while you're asleep. So that's a plus.

But there are a few liiiiiiiittle drawbacks. Just a little one. For one, death. At least one person has died while being put under during a back tattoo. There are also a few less severe medical issues that could come up, like infections and allergic reactions. And I can't even begin to think about how much this would cost. If you've ever had an operation or something that required you to be put under anesthesia, you know that it's way more expensive than the price of, say, a CBD edible.
Anyway, to show my work, here's the article in USA Today. A tattoo artist says a back tattoo WITH sedation could cost between $30,000 and $35,000. The same ink without anesthesia could be $10K to $15K.
Of course, not EVERY tattoo parlor is going to have this option. Most of the artists who are doing it now claim they are using board-certified anesthesiologists within surgery centers . . . not hole-in-the-wall studios.
And the clientele for this is mostly the rich and famous with elaborate requests. You know, not me who would just be rockin' up wondering where I can put the BTS door symbol where it hurts less.
What do you think? Would you go under for a tattoo?
Tattoingly yours,
Behka
