I know when I was a kid, what you couldn't see, the unknown, was always scary. Whether it was the dark hallway, or a shadowy closet, or the worst, Under the Bed, there were a few scary moments there.

But what happens when the monster under the bed is real? Let's unpack that.

The Monster Under the Bed

This is just like a story you'd tell around a campfire after someone told the Hook Hand tale, or the one where The Calls Are Coming From Inside the House. The only difference is, this is real*, and it just happened.

This past week, a babysitter in Great Bend Kansas was on the job, putting some kids to bed at about 10:30 p.m. She was about done when one of the kids told her there was a "monster" under the bed.

So of course, she goes to check to ease the kid's mind..... and there's a grown ass man under the bed.

He goes running, knocking over the babysitter and the bed, and runs off. Turns out, the family knows him, and he used to live there. But now, he's not allowed to be there because of a protective order. They caught him a bit later, and he's facing charges.

The 27-year-old man has been booked into the Barton County Jail on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection from abuse order. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Of course the story is intense and scary, even if it all turned out okay. But I think the real star of this story is the kid!

Think about it. The kid knew something was wrong. They knew there was someone under the bed. In fact, they probably know exactly who it was, and that they weren't allowed to be there. Kids are really a lot smarter than we give them credit for sometimes. And instead of scaring the babysitter or spooking the criminal, the kid used a ghost story cliché to tip them off! How clever!

What would you if you were the babysitter?  I probably would have grabbed the kid and just panic ran, myself, ha!  But everyone involved is at least physically okay, which is a start.

Monsterly yours,
Behka
