Looking For A Daytrip? Try Harry S. Truman’s Birthplace
I was in grade school when I first visited Harry S. Truman's birthplace in Lamar, MO. I have been back to it another time in my adult life. If you're looking for an interesting location for a daytrip some upcoming weekend, check this out.
The Harry S Truman Birthplace State Historic Site is located at 1009 Truman in Lamar, in southwest Missouri. According to the Missouri State Parks' website and acccording to the official deed, in 1882, the Truman's purchased a 20- by 28-foot house for $685. On May 8, 1884, Harry S Truman was born in the downstairs southwest bedroom of the one and one-half story house.
The story on the website states that when Harry was 11 months old, the Truman family moved from Lamar and over the next six years, lived in Harrisonville, Belton and Grandview. In 1890, the family settled in Independence, where Harry started his formal education
