Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports for July 19, 2024

Thursday morning, Pettis County Deputies took a report of theft. The theft of cash took place in the 17000 block of Buchanan Road in Pettis County. The theft took place sometime between July 4th and July 11th, 2024. The investigation continues.
Wednesday night, Deputies were dispatched to the 3400 block of west 16th Street in order to investigate a theft. A subject called and stated he found a truck of his that had been stolen. The occupants of the truck had stated that the truck was sold to them by the caller’s girlfriend while the caller was in jail. The caller stated that he female subject, identified as Jessica Sandra Seeley, 32, of Sedalia, had no right to take his truck nor to sign his name on the title and sell it. The victim also stated that with the truck, several items were stolen from his household. Deputies were able to locate and make contact with Seeley in the 1400 block of South Ohio. Seeley had most of the other stolen items in her vehicle. Seeley was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges of Stealing a Motor Vehicle, Stealing ($750 or More), and Forgery. The stolen items were seized and returned to the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office until the property owner can collect them.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop Monday morning at South Ingram Avenue and East 11th Street on a vehicle that seemed unable to maintain their lane, and had no registration. After a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, the driver, Douglas Johnson, 52, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest. Johnson was booked and released pending charges of Driving While Intoxicated and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Wednesday afternoon, Deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Crestview Drive in Pettis County in reference to a theft. Bradley Simons stated that sometime in the last week someone had taken his red Honda SX200 four-wheeler. At this time, the investigation continues.
Wednesday afternoon, Shannon Cross reported a lost or stolen cell phone. The cell phone was last seen in the area of the Break Time store, 101 Rebar Road, on or around July 10th.
Monday night, while in the area of Elm Hills Boulevard and South Limit Avenue, Deputies stopped a silver colored vehicle because it did not have a front or rear license tag. Deputies made contact with the driver and explained the reason for the stop. The driver stated he did not have an ID, and he was willing to give his information. The male was identified as Christopher Brian Batzel, 41, of Sedalia. Dispatch advised that Batzel had an active warrant from Pettis County. Batzel was arrested for his Failure to Appear warrant from 2023 on charges of felony Tampering With Physical Evidence and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance. Batzel was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked in, with bond set at $7500 cash or surety.
Monday evening, Deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of East Clay Street in Smithton to investigate a theft report. The victim stated someone had gained entry into the residence and had stolen some underwear from the residence. There was no forced entry into the residence at the time of the call. There is no suspect information at this time.
