Maybe you've had one like this, I don't know. Let me set the stage for you.  It was Sunday morning. I had gone to bed a little late the night before, but woke up at a normal time for me, about 4:30 a.m. I stayed in bed until 5:00 a.m., then decided to get up and read a bit. It was still dark of course, and it stayed that way for longer than normal, because of the rain clouds.

I put on the TV for background noise.  It was Animal Planet, specifically a North Woods Law marathon. Basically it's like COPS, only for hunting and fishing, and you get to know the Game Wardens a little better.  So after reading a bit, maybe about an hour or so, about 7:00 a.m., my eyes start to get heavy.  That's not so unusual for me on the weekends. So I think, eh, let's just close our eyes for a bit and listen to COPS: The Woods Edition.

So I did that, but... it wasn't.  I was listening to the show, I could hear them talking about decoys and hunting licenses, "How many birds do you  have in the truck", all that.  But the images were different. It felt a little like I was dreaming, but I was awake at the same time.  I was opening my eyes every couple of minutes. I could clearly feel things.  At least twice I felt myself slink off the couch, like I was on a slide. But I wasn't really moving. I felt myself opening my eyes, but my eyes weren't open.  I felt something fall next to me, opened my eyes and saw nothing. I heard someone walk into the room, but when I opened my eyes I saw nothing. It was very vivid, like this stuff was really happening.  I'd realize it wasn't real when I really opened my eyes, but when I was asleep I could have sworn it was.

And the thing is, when I would open my eyes and see nothing, I'd go right back to sleep. Like, instantly.  And while I was opening my eyes every few minutes, when I'd wake up it was not unlike the feeling of waking up after fainting. Like, you were out cold, and part of you is still back there. I finally decided to sit up and wake up about two hours after I started napping.  At any point during that next hour, I could have easily gone back to sleep.  And really, I was still a bit sleepy an hour after that.

Have you ever had a nap like that, or slept like that? Where everything seems very real and vivid, yet isn't?  Have you had that feeling of such deep sleep that it was almost like you were unconscious?

Or am I just a freak? That's possible.

Heck, I'm writing this almost... three hours later and I still am a little sleepy. I don't know if I should go back, though.  Hmm.

Sleepily yours,
