Gentle Reader, one thing I grew up with as a child of the eighties in West Central Missouri was a vague knowledge of the trucking industry.

What an opening line, right? Right.

No really, my Dad drove trucks for employment my whole life. He worked for Pepsi, for MFA, for Fairmont Zarda. Okay, so you probably know the first two, and not the last. Fairmont Zarda was the company merger of Fairmont Creamery with Zarda Dairy. They were together til the late nineties, when they were bought and then rebought, and basically they became Hiland. But back in the day, my Dad was the guy who would deliver for Fairmont Zarda, and that meant the little cartons of milk you got at school lunches were delivered by him. Among other things, obviously.

So I learned a thing or two - if a big rig truck, for example, that you're passing on the highway flashes his lights at you, that's code. It means you're safe to pass him. If you're seeing a semi in oncoming traffic, and he flashes his lights at you twice, that means slow down or there's trouble ahead. You know, like an accident or a closed road... or cops.

It's a hard job, and a lot of the time we don't appreciate what they do because...we just don't see the results and put the two together. Luckily, someone on TikTok the other day found some truckers and filmed them while they were, well, being perfect. And I love to see it!

NOTE: The dude doing the narration does swear, so might not be safe for work or kiddos.

Now obviously, this guy is being a little tongue in cheek.  And I'm sure there is no "Dale".  But dangit,  I do enjoy watching someone take pride in someone else's work.  There's just something very positive about a person who KNOWS how hard it was to do your job and do it well... appreciating that.
What do you think?  Should we shout at each other more often when we're doing a good job?
Truckingly yours,
Behka
