You're eating too much! You're not working out hard enough! You're eating the wrong things! You're not working out long enough!

You've heard it, I've heard it. I get it. I'm a lazy individual, and that is reflected in the size of my gut. But I'm working on it. It's hard, especially when you're kind of re-learning how to cook for two (instead of, you know, a small army) and trying to keep you both on a better track. Not that I'm blaming NJ, of course. But you know, it's hard for everybody. If you have kids and work overtime and have to deal with other obligations, I get that you can lose motivation to get back in it.

I have. At one point I was working out for about an hour a day, and now I'm lucky if I get in half an hour twice a week.

So if you're in my situation, and you could use a bit of shakeup to the old Workout Playlist, may I offer a few suggestions, Gentle Reader?

Balming Tiger - Trust Yourself.

Balming Tiger are fun. They're not a musical group, so much as a collective. Like, they have an editor, three directors, a couple songwriters, and a couple of rappers. To me, this song is just the right level of motivation to remind you that you're doing okay, especially when you're not feeling like you are.  It's a great song to boost up the self esteem without feeling too corny about it, even if you're not working out.

Bad Bunny - DtMF.

You could definitely work this one into your workout playlist, and it would fit in a few different places.  Maybe as a warm up, or as a wind down, or if you need to  keep pace or something.  DtMF basically is an acronym that translates into English as "I Should Have Taken More Photos".  So it's a bit of a sentimental tune, but... that beat tho.

Beyoncé - YA YA.

This is one of the songs off "Cowboy Carter".  I know some people didn't get too far into that album, but this one is fun to me, and I have to stop myself from clapping along.

G-Dragon featuring Anderson Paak - Too Bad.

Anderson Paak is the new IT Boy of K-Pop, lol.  No, just kidding.  If you don't know who G-Dragon is, he is basically one of the biggest stars in K-Pop.  A bit of an Elder Statesman if you will (he's only 36, but he's been doing this since he was 15). But he and his group have gone through a lot of controversial issues (think drugs, bribery, and sexual assault, serious stuff), so the last six years or so have been all kinds of weird for him.  He wasn't involved in any crimes, but it's one of those things where nobody knew at first who was guilty by association, etc.  But the group (Big Bang) has had a lot of positive attention again in the last six months, and a former member is featured in a very memorable role in Squid Game 2, so we might see them more in the next couple of years.

Max - Say Less.

Max is a former Disney Channel kid who has grown up into being known more as a songwriter than a performer.  He has done a lot of fun, consistently snappy work in the last few years, and this one in particular is a little dirty, a little sassy, and, frankly, a little funny.   It's a kind of pastiche on new disco music, and it's catchy as heck. And how many songs can boast the perfect "That's what she said" line?

Key - CoolAs.

This one I wasn't going to include, but I thought of it when I was talking about the Max song, because it has that similar "disco-esque" vibe.  Key is a member of a group called SHINee, who have been huge since... 2008 or so?  They've been through a LOT in that time.  Harassment, health scares, death threats, and unfortunately suicide.    But they keep coming back better and better, and their solo stuff also continues to improve.  I'd recommend you checking out his whole Good N Great ep.   )

What songs you would recommend we add to our workout playlists?

Treadmillingly yours,
Behka
