First Ward Candidate Interviews Scheduled for June 12
The City of Sedalia will continue its open appointment process for a vacant First Ward City Council seat with public interviews scheduled for Thursday, June 12 at the Municipal Building, 200 South Osage Avenue.
The evening will begin with a Special Session of the Sedalia City Council from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Immediately following the Council meeting, the City will hold public interviews for First Ward candidates starting at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
This interview portion is open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend in person or watch via the City’s livestream to observe the process and hear directly from the candidates.
The candidates include: Adam Porter, Cheryl Ames, Jason Michael Joy, and Virginia Kaye Brainard.

Following the City’s open call for applicants, these candidates submitted an application and will move forward to the public interview phase.
“The City is committed to ensuring that this process remains open, transparent, and accessible to the public. Hosting live, public interviews allows residents to hear from the applicants and engage with the process as the City works to select the candidate who will best serve the First Ward. The open appointment process, which goes beyond what is required under Missouri law, has included a public call for applicants, an opportunity for residents to submit questions for consideration during the interviews, and a commitment to conducting the process in full view of the community. Following the interviews, the Mayor may nominate one candidate to the City Council for approval,” a press release from City said.
If no clear candidate is identified, the process will remain open until the right person is found. Click here to live stream the event June 12 at 6 p.m.
