Spice, Spice, Baby: Lay’s Indian Masala Chips Made Me Rethink My Life Choices (in a Good Way)
Guys. You know I'm always thinking about trying new stuff. I'm always on the lookout for stuff to review for you. I've even taken a suggestion or two over the years. After all, money can be tight, and people don't need to be wasting money on something they're going to hate - especially if they can get a heads up first. This round of "Behka Tries The Thing" was inspired by my lovely fiancée, NJ.

NJ loves almost any and all Asian foods. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian, Mongolian, every time he tries something that's from that style of pallet, he's usually a big fan. Unless it has a lot of vinegar or something. But that's just a personal preference for him.
Sorry, sorry. Long story short, he saw these at the People's Republic of Walton and picked them up for me to try.
And let me tell ya, it was definitely worth a try!
I think they've done these kind of flavors before, but they weren't really sold here. I think I've seen them before, but it was a different packaging. And you can find "strange" flavors of chips all over Asian stores any time of the year. I really like a Spicy Crayfish flavor, myself.
These are wavy, and so they're a little more sturdy than the average chip. Usually when a company does a kettle or a wavy chip, I expect them to be paired with a dip. But I don't know what you'd pair this with.
Maybe you could do a creamy french onion dip? That might be a bit too strong. I like a light one, and I do like my Hiland.
The smell was light, giving off a bit of a cumin/coriander type of scent. The flavor isn't overwhelming. It's a little spicy, but the spice doesn't get intense enough to hurt, or even linger more than maybe five seconds. I could see it maybe sticking with you for a few minutes if you sat and ate the whole bag, though.
It definitely gives off that garlicy, almost earthy flavor, and you get the tartness of the tomato, definitely. It's hard to describe, but they're so good. They just... taste warm, if that makes sense. But in a very pleasant way. Like, I tried one of these, turned to NJ, and said, "These are going to be a problem". Because they're so good, I'm going to eat them all, and it's going to be a challenge not to buy them again.
Which isn't going to do my waistline any favors.
Massalaingly yours,
Behka
