Very early Sunday morning, Pettis County Deputies responded to a report of a wrong way driver travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of US 65 Highway from Highway 52. Deputies stopped the suspect vehicle with the help of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers. The vehicle was still northbound in the southbound lanes at US 65 just north of Westmoreland Road. The vehicle was a white Toyota Corolla with Missouri registration. Deputies made contact with the diver, who spoke very little English. Beside the driver, was an adult female passenger in the front seat and three children in the back seats (the report notes the children were all property restrained). The passenger also spoke very little English, and her teenage daughter translated. Through translation, it was learned the driver had no valid driver’s license. Leonardo Barrios, 33, of Goodman Missouri, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. Barrios was booked in on three charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 2nd Degree, Operating A Motor Vehicle on the Highway Without a Valid License, and Careless and Imprudent Driving. Barrios was placed on a 24-hour hold, with bond set at $1500 cash or surety.
