Sedalia Police Reports for June 17, 2024

Early Monday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle that ran multiple stop signs at South Porter Avenue and East 12th Street. A computer check showed the driver to have a suspended driving status. John W. Sant Sr., 43, of Smithton, was arrested for a charge of felony Driving While Suspended. Sant was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Saturday night, Officers were dispatched to assist on a traffic stop on West 5th Street near South Massachusetts Avenue. Officers made contact with the driver, and during the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Sedalia Police Department, where he provided a breath sample that showed his BAC to be above 0.08. Cesar Quetzecua Chavez, 29, of Sedalia, was booked in at the Pettis County Jail on charges of Driving While Suspended and Driving While Intoxicated.

Officers were notified about a disturbance at the Chances R Bar and Grill, 303 South Lamine Avenue Sunday morning. Information was given that someone had potentially brandished a firearm outside of the bar. The involved party left the scene in a vehicle.

Sunday morning, Officers were investigating a traffic stop, and made contact with another vehicle that had stopped as well near the area of West Main Street and South Kentucky Avenue. Officers detected an overwhelming odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. During the course of the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. Braden P. Maurizi, 24, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Maurizi was transported to the Sedalia Police Department, and then to the BRHC to conduct a blood draw. Maurizi was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked, and was then released.

On the night of June 15th, Officers found a disabled vehicle on West Broadway Boulevard near South Warren Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered one of the subjects with the vehicle had an outstanding warrant from the City of Sedalia. The initial citation was filed in May of 2022, and the latest FTA was issued in March of 2024. Ronald James Blum, 59, of Sedalia, was arrested for his FTA warrant on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway While the Driver’s License is Suspended. Blum was transported to the Pettis County Jail, pending a cash only bond of $200.

Sunday morning, Officers responded to the 1200 block of East 9th Street in reference to a domestic disturbance. A male subject was highly intoxicated and was unable to care for himself. Nickolas Henry Cook, 27, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest. Cook was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 12 hour protective custody hold.

Officers took a report from Nathan Stutes regarding a theft Sunday morning. The item stolen was a iPhone 15 Pro Max. It was stolen on May 27th from the area of West 24th Street and South Grand Avenue. Information was collected, and a report was generated for documentation purposes.

Saturday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop in the 4100 block of West Broadway Boulevard because it had no driver’s tail light. Officers checked the driver’s information with Dispatch, and she was found to have no valid driver’s license. Sharleen E. Inek, 21, of Sedalia was arrested on a charge of Operator’s License Required. Inek was released with a city summons.

Late Friday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was operating without lights on. The vehicle was observed driving on West Broadway Boulevard near Ruth Ann Drive. During the course the investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and then transported to the BRHC for a blood draw. Autumn R. Christoff, 43, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (Prior Offender). Christoff was booked and released at the Pettis County Jail.

Last Friday evening, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle because it had failed to signal a turn near East 5th Street and South Montgomery Avenue. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered the driver had a revoked driving status. Joshua Lee Miller, 39, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Revoked. Miller was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.

Kayla Martin brought in a set of keys last Friday evening to the Police Department. She had found the keys in her driveway, in the 600 block of South Barrett Avenue. Officers gathered the keys and generated a report.

Saturday night, Officers initiated a traffic stop on a silver Chrysler PT Cruiser because it had expired registration. The vehicle was stopped in the 3700 block of West Broadway Boulevard. Officers made contact with the driver and checked his information with Dispatch. It was discovered he had a suspended license out of the State of Oklahoma. Joshua McClendon, 47, of Smithton, was arrested on a charge of Driving While Suspended.

Saturday morning, Officers observed a person walking in the area of East 6th Street and South Hancock Avenue. The suspect had warrants for their arrest. The warrant was issued on June 3rd regarding an incident in April 2024. In that incident, Officers were dispatched to a call of theft. Someone had called about a vehicle theft in the area of East 16th Street and South Marvin Avenue. While Officers were taking that call, another one came in of a different victim reporting the same subject tried to steal their car, about a block away (The victim described the subject as a black male wearing khaki pants and a black jacket). Officers arrived, and spoke with the victim of the first incident. He stated he was at the Cenex, 120 East 16th Street, using the slot machines. A subject he knew as “Jessica Gibson” came in shortly after, and he gave her a ride home to her residence. When she got in the vehicle, he stated she placed a pistol on the center console. He made a comment to her, and she rotated it so it was no longer pointing at him. After he took her home, they were speaking for a few minutes when she started whispering through the passenger side window with another male who had walked up to the vehicle. The male got into the rear driver’s seat and then began making comments about how he was “robbing people tonight”. He also mentioned he did not care about the repercussions, because he had a parole violation. The suspect asked the victim how much money he had. The victim then began to stall, and opened the door of the vehicle to get out. When he did so, the suspect put her hand on the gun on the center console, and rotated it back into his direction. She also took his keys out of the ignition. The victim then left, and did not know what happened after that. A short time later, Officers located the vehicle, a Gold GMC Yukon, on South Marvin Avenue between 16th and 17th Street. The victim stated he did not wish to pursue charges. The keys were recovered and a set of headphones the victim stated belonged to the suspect were located. The headphones had the name “Cherry Ryder” written on the side. Later, Officers took the victim back to the Cenex to try to find his spare key. While at the store, Officers investigated with management at the store to investigate another claim of robbery made that day. While reviewing the video footage, Officers saw the suspect on video, wearing the same clothing she had been described in from the second call of an attempt to steal a vehicle that night*. The suspect was shown walking on foot from the south (from the direction of her residence, and the location of the incident), and seen wearing the headphones that were recovered in the victim’s vehicle. Officers then identified the suspect as Jessica Nicole Kennedy, 37, of Sedalia. Kennedy was arrested on her warrant, which carried charges of felony Robbery in the 1st Degree, felony Armed Criminal Action, and felony Stealing. Kennedy was taken into custody without incident. A search of her person incident to arrest found several drugs related items, including Morphine pills and a glass bulb Methamphetamine pipe. Kennedy was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession and Concealment of a Prohibited Item in a Jail Facility, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Kennedy was issued a $100,000 cash or surety bond on the warrant. The new charges did not carry a bond amount yet at news time, as Kennedy was placed on a 24-hour hold.

Officers responded to the 400 block of North Prospect Avenue in reference to a theft last Friday evening. Information was gathered from Andrew Collins.

Friday morning, Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of South Stewart Avenue in reference to a deceased individual.

On the evening of June 11th, Officers spoke with a victim in the lobby of the Police Department. The victim was there to report a crime that occurred on April 26, 2024 and another that occurred on May 14th, 2024. The report was completed.

*Officers noted in the Probable Cause report, for Casenet 24PT-CR00855, that they believed the second incident was also involving Kennedy. The report notes Kennedy was wearing khaki pants, a black long-sleeved jacket, and a camouflaged vest over the jacket.
