As we know, especially if you have a hunter in your life, you know deer seasons is huge news.

We try to avoid them on the road, sure, but some people...really, really aren't.

If you google "Should I pet deer?", there is an unequivocal consensus. The answer is NO. Sometimes you'll see cute videos where humans have befriended deer and treat them like dogs. Well, here is your friendly reminder that they are wild animals, and if you get too close, they'll attack you. Especially now, that we are in rutting season.

But believe it or not, it's still LEGAL to have a deer as a pet in the following five states, none of which are Missouri. And in 11 more states, you can keep them as a pet if you have a special permit.

But just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Deer carry diseases, and are skittish, and need an incredibly large area to roam. Maybe just get a puppy instead.  Apparently the long term effects of deer getting too friendly with humans is proving itself yet again.

The owners of a nail salon in Overland, Missouri have been cleaning up after a four-point buck crashed through the front window and destroyed the place. There's a video of cops helping it out a side door after they trapped it in a back room. The owners say it caused around $14,000 in damage, and their insurance policy doesn't cover damage caused by animals.

So, yeah, don't do that.  Just don't.   Deer getting so used to being fed by humans sometimes leads to them getting too curious, and stuff like THAT happens (I'm not saying the salon owners fed any animals, not at all). The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) warns that it is illegal and unhealthy to keep deer as pets in Missouri. It is illegal to take wildlife from their natural habitat or keep them as pets without the proper permits.

Sorry to ruin your Snow White fantasies, but... just don't.

Deeringly yours,
Behka
