The Truth About The Houston Missouri Viral Video

Have you ever watched one of those funny videos online, like the ones they used to have on America's Funniest Home Videos, and wondered... "Whatever happened to those people?"

Well, that happened to me recently, and I figured I'd share my journey through the rabbit hole with you, Gentle Reader.  You might find it as interesting as I did!  A short video went viral a couple of years ago down in the small village of Houston, Missouri. It's not that far from the Arkansas side.

Okay, So What Are You Talking About?

I'm getting there! I saw it then, and it popped up on my feed again not too long ago. In case you haven't seen it, or if you need a reminder, here it is.  It's a comedic take with animation about a DUI arrest.

Now obviously, that's a very edited video.  The original video, from the Officer's chest cam, is more like 15 minutes.  The summary of the video is that an Officer was called about a possible driver under the influence.  They found the man at a liquor store, and wanted to check to see if he had driven there.  The Mayor, who owns the liquor store, wouldn't let the Officer see the footage.   Yes, that was the Mayor of Houston at the time, a guy named Willy Walker.

So What Happened Next?

Mayor Walker did not, in fact, let the Officer see the video. According to Ozarks First, here's what he said:

The mayor responds to the officer, saying “my cameras aren’t for you guys ever.”

In fairness, the Mayor did say later that if the Officer had come back with a subpoena, he would have complied.  I'm not sure why it had to get to shouting, but. You can see it for yourself, here's the full video.

From what I can gather, Walker was reprimanded, and then voted out at the next election. So since this happened in 2022, the election was in 2023.

And What About Now?

His LinkedIn says he's still the Mayor. But I think he just hasn't updated that, because I checked other sources telling me he's not, and the mayor is a lady named Victoria Narancich.  At some point, Walker was sued about insurance benefits, and was very vocal about conspiracy in the council. The suit was dropped eventually, however.

I haven't seen anything that gives me a name of the guy who was allegedly drunk driving, and without his name it's hard to find out what happened to him, you dig. I haven't seen much officially about any of this since the election of April 2023,  so I think maybe the town of Houston just wants to forget about this and move on.  I mean, I kinda don't blame them.
