Sedalia Man Charged After Sending Multiple Snapchat Threats
In the very early morning hours of November 16th, Officers took a report in the Police Station lobby of harassment.
The Victim stated the Suspect, her separated husband, has been harassing her on Snapchat by threatening to beat her and shoot her boyfriend. The Victim showed Officers some of the messages, which were excessive in number. One message showed the Victim telling him to stay away, and the Suspect replied he would go to prison if he had to and he would beat the "n***a", otherwise known as Victim 2.
Victim 2 showed Officers the messages the Suspect sent to him and again there were many messages just from that same day. Officers noted there was one message where the Suspect was holding a gun with the barrel toward the camera and threatening Victim 2 with it. They both were willing to assist in pursuing charges and provide a written statement.
Later that evening, Officers located the Suspect, Christopher Nicholas Steck, 34, of Sedalia. Officers advised Steck they needed to discuss an incident with him. He replied that he possibly knew what needed to be discussed. Officers read Steck his Miranda Rights which he indicated he understood and agreed to speak with the Officers.
Steck admitted to sending the messages to both Victims, but said he was bluffing because he wanted Victim 2 to stop talking to Victim 1. Steck also said the firearm in the photo was not his but a friend's. Steck was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour hold pending state charges. Steck has one arrest for Unlawful Use of a Weapon & Armed Criminal Action on his criminal history. He was a suspect in a Harassment Case back in July 2022. He is also on Probation/Parole for Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
Steck was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail. In the original Police Report that was issued to the press, Steck was charged with Harassment, Armed Criminal Action, and felony Unlawful Use of a Weapon. However, in Casenet's entry 24PT-CR01817, those charges have been amended to two counts of Harassment in the 2nd Degree. A warrant has been issued for Steck, but a bond amount was not specified.
