Sedalia Police Reports For May 11, 2022

Tuesday morning, Officers responded to the area of East 28th Street and South New York Avenue for a report of an abandoned firearm. The firearm was located in a body of water in the area. The firearm was collected and is being held for safekeeping.

Sedalia Police responded to the 1400 block of South Prospect Tuesday night for a report of assault. When Officers arrived, they determined the assault took place in a different location. Additional Officers went to the secondary location to make contact with the second party. After investigation and hearing from both parties, information was collected and a 12 hour report was completed.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a passenger car for failing to signal a turn in the 1400 block of East 7th Street Tuesday night. During the traffic stop, the driver was identified and their information was run through Dispatch. Dispatch advised that he had an active Failure to Appear warrant from Sedalia on original charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle on the Highway While Suspended. Brook Edwards Dowell, 30, of Sedalia, was placed under arrest and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked on his warrant pending a $60 cash only bond.

Tuesday night, Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of East 9th Street in reference to a possible disturbance with a weapon. Information was given that a female fled to another location, and the male was still present on scene. Officers arrived and detained three males pending further investigation. All detained parties were later released. A report was completed for documentation.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Dollar General store, 2003 South Limit Avenue Tuesday night in reference to a disturbance between a couple in the parking lot. Officers made contact with them and determined a minor physical altercation had occurred. A primary physical aggressor could not be determined. Both parties went on their separate ways. A 12 hour log was done to document the situation.

On the morning of May 6th, an Officer performed a vehicle check on a car parked in front of the Casey's store, 3500 West 16th Street. Officers made contact with the subject in the car. A check through Dispatch showed the subject had an active warrant out of Bell County, Texas. The warrant was a felony three (Class C) warrant on charges of Cruelty to Non Livestock Animals. Corin Shaun Robert P. Edwards, 22, of Sedalia, was arrested and transported to the Pettis County Jail to be placed on a 24 hour hold pending charges with no bond as a Fugitive From Justice.

Last Friday night, Officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of East Broadway Boulevard and South Lamine Avenue for a license violation. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia (a pipe). Eric D. Dotson, 42, of Slater, was arrested for Possession of a Dangerous Drug and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Dotson was booked and released.

Tuesday night, an SUV was stopped in the area of West 3rd Street and South Missouri Avenue for a brake light out. The SUV was also failing to maintain the right half of the roadway. After an investigation, it was determined the driver was intoxicated and driving on a revoked license. Brandon J. Cooper, 33, was arrested on state charges of felony Driving While Intoxicated and misdemeanor Driving While Revoked. The passenger had an active Pettis County warrant for Probation Violation on charges of felony Driving While Intoxicated. Darnell Johnson, 38, of Kansas City, was arrested on his warrant pending a $25,000 cash or surety bond. Both Cooper and Johnson were taken to the Pettis County Jail to be booked.

Tuesday afternoon, Officers were dispatched to Becca's Framing, 308 South Ohio Avenue, for a report of property damage. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Rebecca L. LaStrada. LaStrada stated that sometime over the last seven months, someone cut the copper tubing on her air conditioning unit. Officers took photos of the damage, and attached them to the report. There are no suspects at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the Easy Stor Storage, 3025 Clinton Road Monday morning for a report of a burglary. When Officers arrived, they spoke with Kaytlin M. Vansteenburgh. Vansteenburgh stated earlier that morning, she was notified by the property owner that someone had broken into her storage unit. When she arrived at the scene, she saw someone had broken the door open. Vansteenburgh informed Officers that $2,769.99 worth of items were broken or stolen. Officers took photos of the scene and attached them to the report. Vansteenburgh gave Police the name of someone she believed to be the suspect. At the time of the report, he had not been located for questioning.

Tuesday morning, Officers were dispatched to the Maksim's Market, 200 East Main Street, for a report of a burglary. When Officers arrived, they made contact with the owner. They stated that when they arrived at the store this morning, they noticed the front door had been damaged. Someone across the street told them they saw the damage and called the Police. An estimated $530 worth of damage was done, but nothing was reported stolen. Officers took photos of the damage and attached them to the report. Surveillance video was being checked, and a suspect has been seen, but not identified at this time.

Sedalia Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Liberty Park Boulevard Tuesday morning. Through the investigation, Officers identified the subjects involved. They were made aware that one of the family members suffered from mental illness. The situation was de-escalated, and a referral was made to Burrell Health to assist the family and the subject.
