Help End Pettis County Food Insecurity With The Food Bank
Have you ever heard the term "food insecurity"?Well, basically it means that you don't know where your next meal is coming from. And it turns out, this is one of the big "hidden" problems here in the US. It's a huge problem right here in Pettis County.
You might not know it, but a lot of people here in our own home town don't know how they're going to feed their kids. A lot of kids are home alone after school, too, and have to fend for themselves when it comes to eating. But, don't despair, there is a solution to the problem, and it's being tackled by the Food Bank and people just like you.
The Food Bank works with local teachers and organizations on something called Buddy Packs. These are little sacks of food that get handed out to kids in need every week. They include simple, easy to make things for the kids who might have parents out at work or who have to help take care of their siblings. There are over three hundred kids in Pettis County alone who get these packs, and there are more that need to be added to the list.
Over three hundred kids. Three hundred thirty five, to be exact. And not just here in Sedalia, in Green Ridge, Dresden, Smithton, all over our area. For each one of those kids, it costs about $180 a year. It adds up.
This is the part where you can help. The Food Bank will be at the Sedalia Wal-Mart on Monday, November 25, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Volunteers will be there to hand out slips of paper with suggested donations, and they'll also accept cash donations (the cash does go a super long way).
I had a talk with Darren White of the Food Bank, have a listen for more details.
So please, come by Wal-Mart come Monday and make a donation of whatever you can. You'll be helping local families right here in Sedalia and Pettis County have a better holiday season.
Donatingly yours,
Behka
