In the early morning hours of Tuesday morning, Pettis County Deputies conducted a warrant check in the 1800 block of South Harrison Avenue.
Charles L. Ford Jr., 51, of Sedalia, was located and arrested on an active Pettis County warrant. The warrant was issued after an incident in October of 2024.
On the night of October 11th, Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of East 17th Street and South Lamine Avenue on a blue Kia passenger vehicle. The stop was conducted because the vehicle's headlights were defective, it had no registration on the front or the rear of the vehicle, and the back driver's side tail light was defective. The stop took place in the area of East 17th Street and South Lamine Avenue.
Deputies made contact with the suspect, who was able to provide a non driver's ID, but no valid proof of insurance and no Missouri driver's license. Ford consented to a search of his person, and also gave consent for Deputies to search his vehicle.
In the vehicle, Deputies located a red bag in the passenger side floorboard. In the red bag, Officers located a camouflaged bag. Inside a pouch of the bag, a broken glass smoking pipe was discovered, with a burnt residue. In a separate pouch, a black cloth case was discovered. In the case, a small clear plastic baggie contained a white crystal substance.
The items were tested at the Pettis County Sheriff's Office. The baggie's contents were found to have a weight of 1.0 grams, and tested positively for fentanyl. The probable cause report notes the statutory amount of trafficking Fentanyl is 20 Milligrams, meaning Ford had 1,000 milligrams in his possession. Deputies also utilized another field test kit, that showed positive results for methamphetamine.
The warrant on charges of felony Trafficking Drugs in the 2nd Degree and felony Possession of a Controlled Substance was issued on October 31, 2024. Ford was booked in at the Pettis County Jail with a bond set at $150,000 cash or surety. Ford remains in custody at news time, with another arraignment on November 12th.
